Case Study
Ofgem
The Helix Consultancy has been working with Ofgem
(the regulator for Britain's gas and electricity markets) for 6 years, closely
supporting their central learning function and line managers throughout
the business.
Managers at Ofgem were struggling to find time for their own development. They concluded that their development should be more specific and linked to individual and business objectives.
- Improve retention of staff
- Facilitate career development
- Improve people management skills
- Encourage personal development
- Design and delivery of training courses
- Help to establish a mentoring and coaching scheme
- One-to-One coaching
- Facilitation of team away days
- Facilitation of meetings to resolve employee disputes
- Staff retention - 12 months on, only 5% of those staff who had been coached had left the business compared to 26% of their peers who had not been coached.
- Career development - Within 12 months 32% of coachees were promoted or got the move they wanted within Ofgem compared to only 12% of their peers.
- People management skills - observed improvements in managing relationships (up and down), managing performance, delegating, motivating, leadership, team building, leading and contributing to meetings, communication.
- Personal development - observed increase in assertiveness, motivation, confidence, time management, risk taking, developing strategy and seeing the bigger picture, influencing others.
- Coachees' Directors reported that .... "participants' attitudes had shifted. They had benefited from the personalised nature of the support, gaining more self awareness and focus in their roles and future careers, more confidence in their abilities, and had become more pro-active generally"
